In late 2017, Metropolitan Funerals joined together with George Hartnett Funerals, becoming George Hartnett Metropolitan Funerals. Our funeral directors joined forces to share their experience and ensure they offer the best possible customer service to the families that choose us for their funeral arrangement needs.
Metropolitan Funerals was Queensland’s largest individual funeral service provider with nine funeral homes throughout Brisbane – more locations than any other funeral company in the state.
As a leader in the Queensland community, our funeral directors strived to provide the greatest flexibility in funeral services, catering for the real needs of an ever-changing community. Metropolitan Funerals prided itself on the quality, respect and personal attention given to each funeral. We recognised that every family and funeral service is unique, and we were dedicated to honouring the life of your loved one, comforting you and your families, and respecting your personal requests.

At all George Hartnett Metropolitan funeral homes, and out and about in your local communities, you will continue to see the same faces you know and trust – now as George Hartnett Metropolitan funeral directors. During the transition you may notice two of our funeral homes remain Metropolitan Funerals for some time longer, as we are working to bring you new and refreshed funeral homes with more choice and excellent premises.
Metropolitan Funerals was the first funeral company to expand into the suburbs of Brisbane, with the first Metropolitan funeral home established in Fortitude Valley. The Fortitude Valley funeral home served as the main premises until the mid-1980s. In addition to the Valley, funeral homes were established in Mt Gravatt and Aspley in the early 1970s. Over the years Metropolitan Funerals continued to grow and in 2017 offered services from 9 locations – more funeral homes than any other funeral provider in the state – making Metropolitan Funerals the largest funeral provider in Queensland.
Our funeral directors have had the privilege of serving many Heads of State, members of the arts and entertainment worlds, and families from all walks of life that have needed our assistance.
